How do I cancel a streaming subscription?
Canceling directly with the service
If you signed up on the service's website, log in and go to your account settings. Look for 'Membership,' 'Subscription,' or 'Billing.' There should be a cancel option. For example, Netflix: Account > Cancel Membership. Disney+: Account > Subscription > Cancel. Hulu: Account > Cancel. Max: Settings > Subscription > Manage. You may need to confirm a few times, and some services offer a pause option instead of canceling.
After canceling, you usually keep access until the end of your billing period. You won't be charged again unless you resubscribe. Some services send a confirmation email; check your spam folder if you don't see it.
- Netflix: Account > Cancel Membership
- Disney+: Account > Subscription > Cancel
- Hulu: Account > Cancel
- Max: Settings > Subscription > Manage
- Amazon Prime Video: Account > Prime Video > End Subscription
Canceling through a third party
If you subscribed through Apple, go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad. Find the service and tap 'Cancel Subscription.' On Android, open Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then 'Payments & subscriptions' > 'Subscriptions.' Select the service and tap 'Cancel.' If you signed up through Amazon, go to Amazon's 'Memberships & Subscriptions' page and cancel there.
Canceling through a third party is important because the service itself can't cancel a subscription you started elsewhere. If you're not sure where you signed up, check your email for receipts or your bank statement for the charge descriptor.
Common mistakes
- Trying to cancel on the service's site when you actually subscribed through Apple or Amazon.
- Assuming canceling deletes your account; it only stops billing, and your watch history may remain.
- Forgetting to cancel a free trial before it ends, resulting in a charge.
