Can I download shows to watch offline?
Which services allow downloads
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, Max, and Paramount+ all offer offline downloads on iOS and Android devices. Some also support downloads on Windows and Mac computers, but this is less common.
Free ad-supported services like Pluto TV and Tubi generally do not allow downloads. Also, not all titles are available for download due to licensing restrictions; originals are more likely to be downloadable than licensed content.
- Netflix: yes, on mobile and some tablets
- Amazon Prime Video: yes, on mobile and Fire tablets
- Disney+: yes, on mobile
- Hulu: yes, on mobile (with ads or ad-free)
- Max: yes, on mobile
- Paramount+: yes, on mobile
How downloads work
To download, open the service's app, find the title, and tap the download icon. You can usually choose video quality (standard or higher) to save space. Downloads are stored within the app and can be watched without an internet connection.
Most downloads expire after a certain period, often 30 days, or 48 hours after you start watching. You may need to reconnect to the internet periodically to renew the license. The number of downloads allowed varies by service and plan.
- Download within the app, not from a website
- Choose quality to manage storage
- Expiration: typically 30 days, or 48 hours after first play
- Reconnect to renew licenses
- Limits: often 5-25 downloads per account
Common mistakes
- Thinking downloads are permanent; they expire and require periodic reconnection.
- Assuming all titles are downloadable; licensing often prevents it.
- Believing you can download on any device; usually mobile and some tablets only.
